A Different Tone
Now that I'm back in the U.S., although not the mainland, this blog will probably have more sports related stuff on it. Sports here are like religion- opiate for the masses.
I've made lots of progress with my adjustment to living here again. I saw some friends, exercised, watched Letterman, called some people and just hung out a little.
I hope that the media will move on now that Terri Schiavo has passed away. The pope is near death, so I suppose that is what they will focus on now. Before this story it was the guy who killed those people at a courthouse in Atlanta and the woman who talked him into surrendering. I doubt there will be a big-story vacuum. But the Schiavo case is gonna backfire. All those right-wing fundamentalists out there who protested and acted like idiots are someday gonna see that they can't push their so-called values onto unwilling people. I have nothing against religion specifically; just don't try to convince me about your beliefs. To tell you the truth, I don't care which god, if any, you believe in. Just leave me out of it and keep it out of my government. Mixing politics and religion is a dangerous, dangerous thing in a country as diverse as the US. Oh, and don't knock on my door cuz I don't wanna hear it.
I saw on the news that the child obesity rate is 3 times what it was less than 10 years ago. Message to parents: watch what your kids eat. If your diet is crap, most likely your kids' diet is crap, too. Whatchu gonna do about it? Do something if you want your children to live long, healthy lives.
Yesterday I went with a team mate from my Japanese football team to watch a University of Hawai'i football practice. Jerry Glanville was there with his big cowboy hat and high-pitched voice. He looked out of place but you could tell that he was totally in his element. He hasn't officially been hired yet, so he was there as an "observer". Yeah, right. He'll be the new defensive coordinator after tomorrow's application deadline.
R.I.P. Johnnie Cochran.
There are 4 teams left in the NCAA tournament- the Final Four are Louisville, Illinois, North Carolina and Michigan State. One thing they all have in common: great coaches. Last weekend's games were some of the best in a long, long time. I hope the final weekend doesn't disappoint. The championship game is Monday night in St. Louis. Cool.
